Bill Gates just dropped $43 million on an oceanfront home in California. Here's how he spends his $102 billion fortune, from a luxury-car collection to incredible real estate.

Bill Gates just expanded his real-estate portfolio.

He and his wife, Melinda Gates, dropped $43 million on a 5,800-square-foot home in Del Mar, California, Katherine Clarke reported for The Wall Street Journal.

The home now stands as one of the biggest recorded deals in the San Diego area, but it's not the only lavish purchase Gates, who has a net worth of $102 billion, has made. The billionaire owns a Washington estate worth $125 million, a private airplane, and a luxury-car collection. But these indulgences make up only a fraction of his massive fortune.

In fact, Gates and his wife, Melinda, previously said it's unfair they're so rich. Instead of spending billions on themselves, they often donate it to charity through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They've also pledged to give away most of their fortune through the Giving Pledge, which they launched in 2010.

Keep reading for a look at how Gates spends his billions.
